The wood industry’s economic and environmental footprint

The report was commissioned by a group of interest groups representing stakeholders in the wood industry in a variety of sectors: construction (Danske Byggecentre), forestry (Dansk Skovforening), timber trade (Dansk Træforening), and furniturebuilding (Træ- og møbelindustrien).

Client challenges

The client wanted to highlight the wood industry's breadth and the green potential of wood as a building material. The client wanted to underline to political and business stakeholders the industry's positive impact on economic growth and job creation as well as its vital role in reducing the construction sector's environmental footprint.

Our approach and findings

Our work consisted of the following tasks:

  • Collection and delimitation of data on the wood industry in Denmark
  • Mapping of value chains in the wood industry
  • Input-output analysis of the wood industry in Denmark
  • Stakeholder management in the wood industry
  • Presentation of results at industry meetings

Our analysis found that Denmark's wood industry is climate-friendly and contributes significantly to the economy, employing people with many different educational backgrounds.

Benefits achieved for our client

Our findings helped policymakers make informed decisions about the wood industry. They also helped our client put wood as a construction material on the increasingly important climate agenda. Beyond the wood industry, our findings were used by leading commentators on climate issues in the public sphere.
